GET THE LOOK - VALENTINES DAY RED LIP

Skin: The client’s skin was prepped using Garnier Micellar water to cleanse the skin and Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base to moisturise.

Base: NYX Pore filler was applied in the centre of the fore head and side of nose to minimise pores and prevent shine, Estee Lauder Doublewear was then applied with a Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and Beauty Blender. Nars creamy concealer was used under the eyes to brighten and MAC mineralise skin finish in Medium Tan was used to add a bit of warmth to the face. Nars Orgasm and Mac Soft and Gentle were added to the cheeks for a pop of colour and a gentle highlight.

Eyes: Brows were kept soft yet defined using Anastasia Brow Powder in Caramel. On the lids I went for a soft golden smoke using Charlotte Tilbury Exagger-eyes and The Dolce Vita palettes, Barberella Brown Rock ‘n’ Kohl eye pencil also from Charlotte Tilbury was used to define the eyes. Ardell lashes were applied wth Duo glue and a good coat of mascara to further accentuate the eyes.

Lips: Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Kiss ‘n’ Tell was used to define the lips, then Bobbi Brown Hollywood Red was applied for a pop of colour.

GET THE LOOK – SOFT PINKS

My makeup philosophy is that you should look like “you on a good day look” I believe makeup should be used to enhance the natural beauty and features we have, not mask them. I feel this Get the look Soft Pinks shows that beautifully, if I do say so myself!

This makeup was for a bridesmaid, I like to show that you can still wear a good amount of makeup and it look soft and bridal.

GET THE LOOK - SOFT PINKS

Skin – My client had a lovely clear skin so I made sure it was ready for makeup by wiping over with Garnier Micellar water and applying Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched face base.

GET THE LOOK - SOFT PINKS

Base – Estee Lauder Doublewear was lightly applied to even out the skin tone, Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer was used to lighten and conceal under the eye. Bronzer was applied to add warmth and definition to the face and blush for a pop of colour.

Brows – A strong brow is everything to young girls, well most girls today, so I used my trusted Anastasia Beverly hills brow powder and gel to create a slightly fuller, more defined brow.

GET THE LOOK - SOFT PINKS

Eyes – Lids were primed with Mac Paint Pot in Soft Ochre and the eye area was kept light and soft with delicate pink shadows and soft definition in the crease. Mac Soft and Gentle highlight was used in the corner of the eye to give a more awake look and Eldora lashes were applied for a full fluttery finish.

GET THE LOOK - SOFT PINKS

Lips – My client wanted a fuller lip and I explained how lip shape can be enhanced with just makeup, so I added fullness and created shape with Mac lipliner in Soar and applied Bobbi Brown Pale Pink over the top.

Hope you like this look, if you have any questions feel free to comment below.

CLARINS SKIN ILLUSION FOUNDATION

I am always on the hunt for new makeup for both myself and my kit, especially foundations. I do tend to find it tricky to find something that ticks all my boxes, I have tried so many and never really feeling that they do what I want them to do. So I decided to give the new Clarins skin illusion foundation a try, let me share my thoughts with you.

I’ve never tried a Clarins foundation before and hadn’t heard about this foundation prior to catching a glimpse of it as I was passing the Clarins counter in Boots so I decided to stop and take a look. Clarins described this as a natural hydrating foundation and with winter on it’s way I was definitely intrigued.

CLARINS SKIN ILLUSION FOUNDATION

CLARINS SKIN ILLUSION FOUNDATION

Shade

This foundation comes in a range of 22 shades, I purchased 110 Honey and 116.5 Coffee and got samples of 112.3 Sandalwood and 114 Cappucino. My summer glow is fading fast *sobs* and whilst I was in store I was more Sandalwood however I’m more of a match to Honey now.

The shades I chose are fab, they are really adaptable to a range of skin colourings and the darker shades I chose have more of a yellow hue, as many of my clients wear self tan and I feel these tones match much better.

Coverage

When I saw the dropper dispenser and dripped some onto the back of my hand I was thinking “this is going to be far too sheer” however as I started to blend it I was pleasantly surprised. The consistancy, whilst feeling light had such great pigment meaning that you didn’t need much product to even out  your skin, allowing your skin to still look like skin.

This foundation is still very buildable, on first application it is quite dewy but dries to a lovely satin finish which is perfect for a drier skin, meaning if need be you can add a little powder to the areas you need to, if at all.

Longevity

This foundation makes no claims to be long wearing as it is designed to provide long lasting hydration, that being said I am very happy with the longevity of this foundation.

Obviously if you have an oily skin this is not the foundation for you anyway but I would say this would still suit a combination skin with a little powder through the T-zone.

I’ll also add that I have been using this on myself withoit a primer to see how the foundation holds out on it’s own and as I said I am happy how it wears through the day.

Packaging

The Clarins skin illusion foundation comes in a sleek rounded glass bottle with a white and gold lid, which is a dropper to dispense the foundation.

I’m not sure whether I would prefer a pump and lid but the dropper is still quite handy for not wasting product.

CLARINS SKIN ILLUSION FOUNDATION

Overall

I was really suprised how much I liked this foundation, my doublewear has even been cast aside for daily use.

When I first applied it there was a slight scent which reminded me of Chanel Vitalumiere and sometimes my eyes are not great with scents but so far this hasn’t affected them, which is great.

As I know it has great skin benefits it feels like a skincare product when I apply it, as well as a foundation.

This would definitely suit a drier skin type and perfect for a more mature skin, it has the feel and moisturising qualities of a tinted moisturiser yet the coverage of a foundation.

I have tried many foundations and whilst they sit in my personal makeup kit they don’t often make it into my professional kit…. and this one has!

SPECIAL EDITION YSL LIPSTICK PACKAGE

On a recent trip to the Trafford centre I saw YSL were doing an exclusive special edition YSL lipstick package. You purchase 2 of their Rouge pur couture lipsticks and get interchangeable limited edition lids to go on them, all presented in a YSL box for no extra cost. I thought they looked super classy so decided to treat myself.

SPECIAL EDITION YSL LIPSTICK PACKAGE

I simply love YSL not only for their luxury brand and packaging but their products are great too. I’m a massive fan of their Rouge Volupte shine lipsticks as I love a more balmy feel and a glossy look without wearing a sticky gloss, the only problem is they don’t last well on the lips, however they do look fab when you pull one out your bag to reapply.

I purchased 2 lipsticks in the shades 66 Bois de rose and 17 Rose dahlia and chose the lids in a nude and gold snake print finish and also the red and gold snake print finish.

These not only look amazing but are a great handbag must-have.

SPECIAL EDITION YSL LIPSTICK PACKAGE

Shade

The Rouge pur couture lipsticks are available in 43 shades.

I purchased 2 shades, 66 Bois de rose, a deeper neutral colour with a slight purple tinge, looks slightly less intense in person than it does in the picture, I have quite a bit of natural colour in my lips so feel I can’t wear anything too nude this has a similar tone to my Chanel lipstick in Mademoiselle.

SPECIAL EDITION YSL LIPSTICK PACKAGE

I also chose 17 Rose dahlia, a beautiful bright corally-red, again slightly less intense in person which makes this a very wearable shade, not too intense for a brighter day look.

SPECIAL EDITION YSL LIPSTICK PACKAGE

As you can see below these are both beautiful, wearable shades and a great addition to my personal collection.

SPECIAL EDITION YSL LIPSTICK PACKAGE

Finish

YSL claims “an SPF 15 moisturising formula which saturates lips with intense, stay-true colour and medium to full coverage, with a radiant, satin lipstick finish” and I would have to agree, if I go for a full cover lipstick I much prefer a satin finish and these offer just that, a comfortable wear yet great colour pay off.

Longevity

Again YSL claims a “up to 6 hours” wear, like with all lip products it depends what you are doing whilst wearing them, eating, drinking…kissing all will affect the longevity. I am very pleased with the longevity of this product though and would highly recommend.

Packaging

As with all YSL products their packaging is super classy, whether you buy the standard lipsticks in their sleek gold packaging or these limited edition ones they both look amazing when you pull them out to reapply.

Here is a close up of the 2  complimentary special edition YSL lipstick package lids I chose.

SPECIAL EDITION YSL LIPSTICK PACKAGE

Overall

I love these lipsticks, a great product, with a great finish, available in an amazing shade range, in fabulous packaging…what’s not to love!

These retail at £28 and I am happy to pay that, it maybe a little out of someone’s budget but I would definitely suggest putting it on your gift list.

You can treat yourself or a loved one to their very own HERE

DESTINATION WEDDINGS AND YOUR MAKEUP

So you’ve always longed to get married abroad…sun, sea and sandy beaches. Your wedding planner is there to guide you through your experience but what about your makeup? Here are some things to consider about DESTINATION WEDDINGS AND YOUR MAKEUP.

destination wedding

There are 3 main options when thinking about your wedding makeup abroad

1 Have a makeup artist in the country you are getting married

This seems like one of the only options and the easiest but there are definitely a few things to think about before you make your final decision.

Will you get to have a trial?

For some they are lucky enough to be able to visit many months before and have a trial however usually it is done just days before the wedding. So what happens should you not like it? Is there availability to find someone new with only days to spare?

Makeup styles

Often different cultures have different styles this goes with makeup too, you need to be seeing examples of work to make sure it’s inline with what you had in mind.

Language barrier

Many countries are amazing at English, we are definitely the lazy ones when it comes to language and whilst they may speak good English are you able to get through exactly what you want and if changes need to be made.

Cost

The first time I was asked about flying out to do a destination wedding I thought surely it is a lot more expensive, it turns out there is not a great deal of difference in price in some areas to actually flying out a UK artist than having it done at a local salon.

Building a rapport

When booking your destination wedding you will build a great rapport with your planner but not often speak to your makeup artist until you arrive. Wedding mornings are such a personal time that you want to make sure that you get on with your artist beforehand

Will you have to travel to a salon

Just like in the UK it is far less stressful if the artist will come to your room or villa on the morning especially if there are a few of you, so check whether you have to travel out to a salon on the morning.

2 Fly out your makeup artist

This might sound a bit A-list but more and more brides do this, you will often have to cover flights, a night of accomodation and transfers on top of the makeup prices, but for peace of mind and a stress free amazing wedding it will be worth every penny.

You will need to enquire even further in advance as the artist will often need to book out days either side to allow for delays etc, some artists may charge for days out of salon as they will have a loss of earnings but it is definitely worth enquiring with them, as I said before this can sometimes still work out a similar price than having a makeup artist from the country you are getting married in.

Using a local artist means you can have your trial and as much contact as you need before the big day, you will feel more comfortable and at ease on the day, they will come to you and spend the morning with you helping you get ready and may even stay through the day for touch up’s.

3 Doing your own makeup

If you are worried about all of the above and feel confident about your own makeup application then why not book in with a local bridal makeup specialist for a few makeup lessons to learn and perfect your look. The artist can advise you on which products and tools you will need for the job.
