USING UP COSMETICS BEFORE BUYING NEW ONES AND CHANGING MY OUTLOOK

CHANGING MY OUTLOOK AND USING UP COSMETICS BEFORE BUYING NEW ONES

I am a nightmare for buying things, especially cosmetics. The hundreds and probably thousands I spend on them is ridiculous. So I am making a concious effort not to buy things so frivolously….some weeks are better than others!

In my defence it is my job and I am in the beauty industry however the large majority of my purchases are still unnecessary.

So as well as trying to cut down on the amount of products I am buying, I am also trying to, as this post is headed, use up cosmetics before buying new ones.

Now this might not happen before I buy them but I seem to be succeding in not opening the new items before finishing off the opened ones.

Which is helping me not to buy as many cosmetics, as I have new ones sitting here waiting to be opened.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who seems to have bags, boxes and even cupboards filled with opened cosmetics which once opened will need to be used within 3 and 12 months.

Now with both skincare and make-up I do like to switch products around and sometimes I use more treatment like products on my skin, then other days it may need more nourishment so I do have a few products open at one time… so there is definitely no need to be adding more to the drawer, box or cupboard.

So if you are like me and have hoards of opened products that you haven’t yet finished, make a concious effort to use them up, once they are used up you have more space to either see what you have got more clearly or replace them with either the same product or something new to try.

A lot of the time it’s down to poor organisation or the sheer fact we have too many items that can lead us to buy something and open it only to later realise we already had one opened.

So first things first go through all your items if you know it’s been there a looooong time whizz it in the bin, if you are unsure smell the product and you can usually tell. Old products may not be as effective, passe their shelf life or even habouring bacteria so just get rid.

Anything with only a little bit remaining, that is fit for purpose, keep to the front, after another few uses that will be empty and allow you more space.

Anything you really really didn’t like get rid of, there’s a reason you didn’t like it. If it’s clean and usable offer it to a friend or family member.

If you have any unopened products that are unwanted, gifts or raffle prizes etc then donate them, there are lots of women’s refuges and other charities that would be really grateful of such items, see HERE.

Once you have cleared out the unnecessary items you can focus on what you do have and maybe get some clear containers and segregate the items for easier use so if you only have a small collection you could keep your daily things together and any other treatments or products seperate.

Or if you are like me and have almost your own beauty department then you could seperate by item such as cleansers, masks, serums, moisturisers etc

With “Influencers” being a bit part of today’s culture we are always tempted with the latest products by pretty girls and guys on social media or celebrities in marketing campaigns and I for one am sucked in by these sometimes more than others depending on my mindset. So whilst I feel this way sometimes I hide certain things from my newsfeed or refrain from watching hauls etc.

My over active brain really does make me aware of what influence I am having on people too so whilst I have already spoken on my blog about how what we eat and our lifestyle affects our skin I think I want to focus more on that and also more on techniques for applying your skincare and makeup that can be used regardless of the products.

There will still be product reviews and if I love something I will tell you about it, however I will make sure I really do love it first….or will explain why I don’t love an item and hopefully save you some pennies

I hope this post has inspired you to maybe organise your collection and also be more aware of the products you already have and maybe to think a little more about whether you really NEED to be spending more money on things you already have.

If there is something you’d like to see on the blog or if you have any comments I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below
