Whats in my personal makeup bag

A lot of clients ask me, how long does it take you to do your makeup in a morning? Do you use all these products everyday? So lets take a look at what’s in my personal makeup bag.

Throughout my career as a makeup artist I felt the need to constantly have a face full of makeup, but as I have gained confidence both in my work and myself as an artist I don’t feel the need to wear as much myself, as my skill is how I can make others look.

I think what also helped in this transition was working predominantly in bridal, if I was to turn up in full makeup, big brows, dark eyes and strobed up to the max (nothing wrong with this look at all) most of my clients would be put off, the majority of them say “I like your makeup”.

Also another thing that factors into my makeup routine is that most wedding mornings I am out the door at 5am, so a 4am wake up leaves just enough time for washed and dressed, teeth brushed, quick makeup, hair straighten, kit check and 2 cups of tea (standard)….if I was to put on a full face and lashes we are talking an extra hour, without sleep and when I have a hectic morning and then come home to my family I need all the sleep I can get.

Which leads on to the last factor I’m not just a makeup artist I’m a mum of 4, so mornings are chaotic enough and just like everyone else don’t allow for me stood in front of the mirror for hours.

All that being said I am part of an industry which is based on looks and appearance so I would never leave my house (or open my front door) wearing no makeup at all.

Anyway back to what you came to know…..

So my daily, bare minimum makeup routine is

Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow – This is my primer and I like that it adds a touch of radiance.

Estee Lauder Doublewear – My holy grail foundation, doesn’t transfer or budge all day.

Mac mineralise Skin finish – Matte and available in a range of shades, I use this as my bronzer.

Hourglass Ambient lighting powder – This is a new addition to my makeup bag from my trip to London. I’ve always wanted to try these powders and I’m SO glad I did it adds warmth, radiance and dimension to my skin.

Milani cosmetics blusher – My absolute fave shade is Corallina.

Mascara – Currently I have Lancome doll eyes waterproof it’s ok….none seem to blow me away, and I think I may do a mascara post, so keep an eye out for that (no pun intended).

Anastasia brow powder – LOVE this product I have the shade medium brown and do not leave the house without my eyebrows.

Carmex berry lip tint – I’m not a massive lipstick fan on myself, I put my makeup on and don’t retouch it all day, so I keep my lips neutral and hydrated. The one I use is tinted so will add colour but its very close to my natural lip colour so once its worn off you don’t really notice much, if I do reapply its easy to do without a mirror…the easier the better for me.

Whats in my personal makeup bag

When I have to make more effort in the daytime

Bobbi brown eye palettes – I have 2 small palettes one matte, one shimmer and if I add definition round my eye or add a bit of sparkle I will use these.

Charlotte Tilbury flawless powder – I’m not a big powder fan but if I need to use one this is my go to.

Whats in my personal makeup bag

This is all about daily makeup, on a extremely rare night out I love nothing more than getting glammed up with a full face of makeup, smokey eyes, lashes the lot!

In my personal makeup bag I own 6 makeup brushes and only 4 of them I use daily. They are a real techniques buffing brush for foundation, RT contour brush for bronzer/powder, RT contour brush for blusher/shimmer, my ABH brow brush Then if I apply eyeshadow I use a mac 217 to blend and a mac 266 to line.

See, I am normal!

I went to a local YSL counter and asked the consultant to match my colour, she asked whether I prefer a yellow, pink or neutral cast to my foundation I explained that it depended on the foundation some are too yellow so I opt for the neutral….but definitely NOT pink. She tried a neutral and a yellow and I went for the yellow, my shade is BD50 warm honey.

The BR shades are pink tones, B are neutral and BD are yellow toned.

The consultant explained that they do oxidize on the skin, which I thought they would as I find the YSL Touche eclat foundation does the same.

I was happy with the colour match so bought the foundation and she also advised the All Hours Primer which I also purchased.

I’m always on the hunt for new foundations, I’ve tried sooooo many and whilst some are better than others nothing makes me want to repurchase and be loyal to it like Estee Lauder Doublewear.

I like my foundation to disguise the pigmentation on the sides of my face, but not feel too heavy on my skin, I HATE it when foundation transfers on to my hand, my phone… anything. I don’t like to wear powder as I like my foundation to set and I don’t really mind going shiny through the day. I am 37 and very conscious when products crease around my eyes and mouth.

So this foundation has its work cut out.

Even though I bought the primer I wanted to test the longevity of the foundation so applied it without primer and without any radiance boosting products.

The packaging is a chic frosted glass bottle with black lid and writing and a gold YSL logo….there’s a pump yaye!, this is a massive bonus to me as its the one thing I dislike about Doublewear.

I applied it with my usual real techniques buffing brush, I like to apply a thin layer and buff it into my skin and then stipple over the areas I need more coverage, where my pigmentation is and sides of my nose.

It has a feint YSL smell, but nothing as strong as the Touche eclat foundation, so that’s good, I used two pumps to cover my face, I was happy with the coverage, my pigmentation can always be slightly seen but that doesn’t bother me, I could have layered up for more coverage.

I left the foundation to see what finish it gave and after a few minutes it left me with a beautiful satin matte finish which looked amazing.

I didn’t want to use any powder to see how the foundation wore, so I applied my usual makeup and observed closely throughout the day.

It does oxidize on the skin a little so just be aware when choosing a shade, I went slightly shiny throughout the day as I usually do (but had no primer or powder) I didn’t notice it transfer on anything and it lasted really well. It didn’t seem to crease around my mouth or around my eyes, it felt beautiful and light on my skin.

This is definitely staying in my makeup bag and once I have given it a thorough testing I can see it making it into my professional kit too.

Glamglow masksThe Glamglow masks have been a real hit with many bloggers, youtubers and celebrities. Known as a facial in a jar these masks are said to achieve great results fast, so why have I not tried them yet?

There are 6 masks in the range depending on your skin type and concern, as I was reading through them all I could identify with each one. I have dehydration, yet I break out, I need anti aging…so which one do I go for?

The masks retail at £42 for 100ml  or a Glam to go size which is £16 for 100g, the smaller size seemed a great way to try it out before investing in the larger sizes….but still I wondered…..which one??

As I was in the Trafford centre I knew the boots there stocked Glamglow so off I went to hopefully shed some light on which product would be best for me.

And there I found the answer to my prayers, the multi-masking treatment set, all 6 masks in trial sizes in a box for £29, I couldn’t believe it!

Glamglow masks

The beauty of this set means you can use different masks as your skin changes or use a few at one in different areas. On the back of the box there are instructions as to which mask to put where for a desired result, however you can really tailor to your own skin.

I have only tried them out once and they are AMAZING, I really need to step up with skincare and add more treatments in so I think this will be my Sunday treat!

I would highly recommend this set to anyone, whatever your age, skin concern this set really does have it covered.

Charlotte Tilbury

If any of you haven’t yet tried any products from Charlotte Tilbury, then what are you thinking?

Everything about the brand exudes luxury, from the products themselves to the sleek rose gold packaging and their fantastic service, its simply amazing!

Today I received yet another stunning package from Charlotte Tilbury, that I ordered online. I always get carried away and if you spend over £150 (which is not difficult for me at all) you get free gift wrapping and next day delivery.

The packaging is amazing, even the outer cardboard box it comes in is printed inside with stunning images and nestled inside is the amazing Charlotte Tilbury gift box tied with ribbon.

It’s like Christmas every time I receive my order, even though I’ve ordered it and paid for it myself, when I receive it there is a sense of intrigue and excitement as I unravel my treats.

Inside the box the items are delicately wrapped in tissue paper held together with a rose gold logo sticker, its those little finishing touches that just scream attention to detail and you know this company is on a whole new level, even your invoice/receipt is in a luxury envelope with rose gold foil printing…it honestly makes me super giddy.

As well as the fabulous products you have ordered there are ALWAYS complimentary mini products (which are perfect for your handbag) and samples (which are a perfect taster for trying new products before you buy or for taking on holiday).

I think samples are an amazing way for companies to increase revenue but also for customers to try before you buy, unfortunately some people abuse the sample system and now I find companies refrain from handing them out….. not Charlotte Tilbury though, they include at least 4 or 5 everytime.

On to the products themselves the packaging is fab, shiny, sleek, classy… all the things you want from a luxury product.

The products I received in this order were

Airbrush flawless finish powder – medium

Lipsticks – Pillow talk, Bitch talk, Coachella coral and Stoned rose

Lip liners – Kiss n tell, Pink venus and Crazy in love

Charlotte Tilbury magic eye rescue

I received a mini legendary lashes mascara (which is AMAZING) and samples of their magic foundation, the retoucher concealer, perfume and 2 lip colours….all of which I can’t wait to try.

I’m not a powder fan at all but have heard great things about this one so I will keep you posted on how I get on with it. The lipsticks and liners I already own quite a few in my kit and they are super comfortable to wear and long lasting. The magic eye rescue is a repeat purchase for myself and is AMAZING, I have sensitive eyes and a lot of dryness/dehydration and this really helps to hydrate and provides a great base for makeup.

Urban decay heat palette

Let me start by saying how much I really love this palette. I own the Naked 1 and 2 palettes and to be honest they get carried around in my kit, are put out at most jobs and never used, the only 2 colour’s I seem to use are Sin (which I bought as a full size single) and half baked which is a beautiful gold colour.

I think this is due to the fact that there seem to be quite a lot of frosted colour’s in there and I prefer matte I thought the palettes seemed pointless if I was only going to use 1 or 2 colour’s so didn’t entertain Naked 3 or the smokey palette.

When Heat was released I was drawn in by the range of colour’s as lots of clients ask for very warm pinks and oranges, but I was a little hesitant as I thought it might just be something else I carry around and not use.

If I’m being totally honest I bought it on a whim, not really looking or testing the colour’s, there seemed to be so much buzz about it I just wanted to say I owned it.

When I first started using it WOW! I fell straight in love with it, every single colour I will use. The shades I would use for transition (the colour to blend out the dark into the light) and for deepening up the crease are all matte, which is a must for me and the colour’s that are shimmery are bright and pigmented for the lid.

The colour pay off with this palette is great and the eyeshadow’s apply really well they have a beautiful buttery texture which means very little fall down.

The palette is priced at £39.50 and contains 12 x 1.3g /0.05oz eyeshadows, a decent sized mirror and a brush (which I never use).

If you are in two minds about this palette, honestly go for it you won’t be disappointed!
